Aug 25  The Suburban Tollmen take the 2008 NYCAFL Grand Final with a resounding win over the Vilage Bohemians. Jun 24  The New York Magpies women’s football league had its second game on June 21st. More photos to come soon. Jun 17  The New York Magpies Ben Squires, Jude Lonergan and Dylan Bryant caught up with the Australian Model Lara Bingle during the recent Australian Cricket tour of the West Indies. Lara was impressed that an Aussie football team was based in NYC and promised to stop by for a game next time she’s in town. Jun 03  The New York Magpies caught up with Aussie Basketballer Lauren Jackson on the floor of Madison Sq Garden during her recent visit to NYC to play the Liberty. We wish her and the rest of the Opals Team all the best as they ‘Go for GOLD’ at the Beijing Olympics in August. Thanks to Garth and Juice for setting this up.Apr 29  The Magpies feature in the AFL Record with Tiffany Cherry Apr 22  Garth Nevin takes a Screamer over Denver. The Magpies made the journey to the inaugural FastStream Florida Invitational at the brand new Broward Country Cricket complex in Laurderhill Florida on April 11th. The facilities were excellent and the ground was one of the best the Magpies have played on. The 85 degree heat was welcomed by the Magpies after a long winter. The team had a successful start to the season winning 2 out of 3 games. Last seasons premiers Denver Colorado Bulldogs were the prize victim of the Magpies campaign, falling 1.2 (8) to 2.3 (15). A tightly contested battle against Washington/Baltimore saw the pies nudged out by one point which suggests that Eagles are the team to beat in the North East. The result of the third match against host team Florida Redbacks (teamed with the Fort Lauderdale Fighting Squids) was a narrow victory by the pies. Most Valuable Player for the tournament was awarded to Joel (Man Mountain) Keating who made a huge impact in all three matches. The fastest man over 70 meters was taken out by the Magpies Joey (Disco) Discepola. |
